President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi will attend naval drills in Alexandria on Tuesday that come as a part of what the military described Saturday as its largest manoeuvre since 1996.
The naval drill, dubbed Dhat al-Sawari, will be attended by Defense Minister Sedqy Sobhy, the army’s chief of staff Mahmoud Hegazy and the navy’s chief commander Ossama al-Geneidy in addition to a number of ministers.
On Saturday, Egypt’s military spokesperson, Mohamed Samir, said the army had begun its biggest wargame as part of its “strategic training for 2014”.
He said the manoeuvres, dubbed Badr 2014, which started on 11 October would continue to 6 November, revealing that the troops taking part in the drills are double the numbers that took part in the latest wide-scale manoeuvre: Badr 96.
