In his interview with Al Hayat private TV, Pope Tawadros II, Pope of Alexandria and Patriarch of St. Mark See, said that the secretary of the former President Mohamed Morsy has asked the Pope to visit the president to support him, but he refused.
The Pope added that Morsy’s regime has persecuted Christians in Egypt, and that the Copts used to pray for them in return.
He also denied rumors about many Copts joining the political arm of the Muslim Brotherhood, Freedom and Justice Party, assuring that such rumors were invented by the Brotherhood for political reasons.
