Pope Tawadros II of Alexandria ordained 10 new priests on Saturday at the headquarters of the Patriarchate in Alexandria.
Mohsen George, a member of the Coptic Orthodox Lay Council in Alexandria, said Tawadros visited Alexandria Saturday in the first spiritual visit after his return from Russia amid strict security measures. He pointed out that metal detector gates were used and the church scouts organized entrance and seating.
The pope has ordained 10 priests for spiritual patronage and service at some churches, which suffer from a shortage of priests in Alexandria, George added. Tawadros held spiritual meetings with the newly ordained priests, after the end of the prayer and the ordination ceremony.
The Pope delivered a weekly sermon and also presided over the prayer of the Divine Liturgy, at the headquarters of the Patriarchate and amid the presence of a large number of bishops and priests and hundreds of Coptic people.
Bishop Kyrillos, bishop and abbot of the Martyr Mar Mina Monastery in Maryout, Bishop Daniel, bishop of Sydney, Australia, and Bishop Daniel, bishop and abbot of St. Shenouda Monastery in Sydney, Australia, Bishop Marcus, bishop of Wayly and Hadaeq al-Qobba areas, a number of Alexandria priests, and hundreds of Coptic people attended the ceremony.
A group of children were also baptized by Tawadros following the ceremony.
