A pregnant woman died on Sunday from the H1N1 virus in an intensive care unit in a Beheira governorate hospital in Egypt's Nile Delta.
The woman was admitted to Kafr Al-Dawar Hospital on 18 November, as doctors suspected she had symptoms of H1N1 virus, commonly known as swine flu.
She was quickly transported to another specialised hospital, Al-Ahram's Arabic news website reported, and placed in ICU as the virus poses a bigger danger to pregnant women, the elderly and children.
However, she didn't respond to medication and died.
Swine flu last spread in Egypt between December 2013 and March 2014, with over 60 reported dead from the virus. The disease's infection rate has been lower and more spaced out since then.
The disease first appeared in Egypt in 2009, causing schools and universities to close for several weeks as anxiety spread in the densely populated country.
The virus was first found in pigs, prompting a widespread pig culling, but the virus later mutated, while the World Health Organisation said at the time that there was no evidence of animals transmitting the virus to humans.
