Charred body found at Beni Suef bomb site is Brotherhood member: Police

The interior ministry announced on Sunday that a charred body found at a bombing site in Al-Wasta town in Beni Suef governorate a day earlier was that of a Muslim Brotherhood member.

A bomb went off near a train station in Al-Wasta on Saturday night. Police later found three other explosive devices planted on the railway tracks and a charred corpse near the railway station. The railway line links the northern town to Cairo.

According to the statement on the ministry’s official Facebook page, DNA tests revealed that the body belongs to Mohamed Abdel-Moneim, a local Brotherhood member who was born in 1990.

The Muslim Brotherhood was declared a terrorist organisation in Egypt last December by the government. Thousands of supporters have been jailed.

Egypt has seen a wave of bombings and shootings since the ouster of the Brotherhood’s Mohamed Morsi from the presidency in July 2013.
