A number of political parties and movements announced their plans for demonstrations Sunday Nov. 30 in objection to Saturday’s acquittal of former president Hosni Mubarak on graft charges, and the dropping of murder charges for the death of protesters during the January 25 Revolution.
Presiding judge Mahmoud al-Rashidy also acquitted former Interior Minister Habib Al-Adly and six of his aides for the death of protesters.
Demonstrations erupted Saturday evening in Tahrir Square; two people were killed in resulting clashes with security forces, in addition to other 9 killed Sunday according to state-owned MENA.
The Revolutionaries’ Road Front announced on its Facebook page Saturday night that they are going to conduct different demonstrations in all universities Sunday.
The Hisham Mubarak Law Center reported that by the eruption of the demonstrations, the security forces broke into Zagazig University and tried to disperse their march, arresting about 11 students.
The center also reported clashes in Fayoum between students and the security forces, after which 4 students were arrested.
Youm7 reported that students at Al-Azhar University conducted protests that blocked the street, and then set fire to car tires. The university has so far denied it would postpone study on campus.
The Interior Ministry released a statement Sunday saying that Saturday’s demonstrations were orchestrated by the Muslim Brotherhood, who tried to make clashes with the security forces which lead to the killing o the civilians.
The Journalists and Freedoms Defending Front released a statement Sunday saying that they willing to conduct a protest in front of the Journalists’ Syndicate Tuesday Dec. 2.
“We are rejecting the final verdict released acquitting Mubarak and his assistants. About 1,000 civilian were killed during their rule; this verdict is shocking for public and families of the martyrs as they are saying clearly that they are not guilty in any possible way,” The group said.
Other demonstrations are expected to be continuing for the coming days, due to calls by political movements including Bread and Freedom Party and 6 April Movement.
