Al-Azhar organized today a conference entitled “Al-Azhar facing terrorism and extremism” in the presence of the Grand Imam of Al-Azhar, Dr. Ahmed Al-Tayeb, Pope Tawadros II, Pope of Alexandria and Patriarch of St. Mark See as well as many Muslim scholars and Christian clergy.
In his speech, Pope Tawadros said that Copts have always loved their country and sacrificed in order to preserve it.
He gave example that Pope Kyrolos invited the Copts to donate upon the setback in 1967. During the war of October 73, the first martyr was a Coptic soldier.
After the dispersal of Rabaa Adawia and Nahda sit-ins, many churches were burned by fanatics, which were welcomed by the Copts who considered burning their churches is the price they should pay in order to preserve the homeland.
