Bread and Freedom party condemns university hospitals’ privatization

The Bread and Freedom Party condemned a newly-issued law to privatize university hospitals, and to establish a Higher Council to dictate the price of services.

It was mentioned that this decision indirectly privatize these hospitals that used to offer about 30 percent of free treatment services to poor people.

The draft law includes 18 articles, Al-Bawaba News reported, and suggests administrative and financial regulations for hospitals.

The Doctor’s Syndicate criticized the proposed law, saying that it means approximately 88 hospitals will transition to non-profit to for-profit institutions.

Khairy Abd Al-Daym, the syndicate head, stated that government must increase the budget allocated to health, adding this decision is “a disaster.”

“In case the law were issued we will challenge it in the court until its complete cancelation,” he added.

The Bread and Freedom party announced its solidarity with the syndicate, adding that the state should transparently announce the health budget, as “any discussion regarding the system development before the announcement, will be meaningless.”

“Hiring doctors and giving up others means that these hospitals will not do its main job, which is teaching young and newly graduates doctors, and giving them the experience they need. This transformation is an old idea for a project since Mubarak regime that we firmly refuse,” statement read.
