Al-Azhar University has decided to expel 71 students for their involvement in protests on campus, and suspended investigation with five others not proven to have participated in such acts.
In a statement on Wednesday, the administration said it requested the army to draft the expelled students into the army to do their duty and service for the country.
The statement appealed with the rest of the students to commit to academic ethics.
Wednesday saw an average day of student attendance with heavy security presence on campus in case of any sudden acts of violence carried out by the students.
