The Sinai-based Ansar Bayt al-Maqdis (ABM) militant jihadi group released a video Tuesday showing the execution of two civilians ABM claimed were army informers.
In the beginning of the video, four men appeared confessing they gave information to military forces, then two handcuffed and blindfolded men—it was unclear if they were among the original four—were shown being shot to death.
This is not the first time ABM has released videos of its operations or executions. It also claimed responsibility for a massive coordinated attack on military sites in North Sinai on Oct. 24 that killed over 30 military members.
ABM—which has sworn allegiance to the Islamic State and began calling itself the State of Sinai in November—released a video in October announcing its killing of three civilians it also claimed cooperated with the military.
Additionally, on its Twitter account earlier in December ABM claimed responsibility for the killing of American oil expert William Henderson in the Western Desert and published photos of his passport and company ID.
Amidst an ongoing militant and security crisis in the restive North Sinai, a state of emergency has been in effect in the region since Oct. 25, and will last three months, according to earlier military statements. Military operations and the purported killing of Sinai “terrorists” by the military are also frequently reported by government sources on a near-daily basis.
