Egyptian President Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi arrived in Kuwait on Monday morning, his first official visit to the Gulf state since his election last year.
Kuwait has, along with the UAE and Saudi Arabia, been a key financial backer of the post-Morsi authorities in Egypt. The latest Kuwaiti grant to Egypt in November was worth $1 billion.
El-Sisi will discuss investments and bilateral agreements with Kuwaiti officials, and is expected to meet with local businessmen to discuss possible investment in Egypt. Also in attendance are the Egyptian ministers of foreign affairs, petroleum, international cooperation and investment.
Kuwaiti Foreign Minister Sheikh Sabah Al-Khalid Al-Hamad Al-Sabah greeted the Egyptian president at Kuwaiti International Airport.
El-Sisi will also be meeting with Marzouk Al-Ghamem, the speaker of Kuwait’s National Assembly.
