Security forces dispersed a small protest in downtown Cairo on Thursday afternoon.
According to eye witnesses, tens of protesters were in Talaat Harb square when security forces dispersed the demonstration.
Eye witnesses told Ahram Online that the protesters were not holding banners or flags when they let off fireworks. The protesters chanted 'The people want to topple the regime'.
Soon police came and fired allegedly live ammunition into the air to disperse the protesters, the eye witnesses added. No injuries or arrests have been reported. Shops have been closed.
Ahrar movement issued a statement on its official Facebook page saying that the rally on Thursday was their reply to the head of Abdeen district who stated two days ago in a TV interview that downtown was the most stable and calm area in Egypt thanks to the security forces.
"We wanted to prove that there is still a revolution," the statement added.
The ministry of interior has announced that 13 pro-Morsi protesters, which it referred to as members of the Muslim Brotherhood, were arrested after they attempted to organize a rally in Talaat Harb square.
The Muslim Brotherhood was designated as a terrorist organisation in December 2013.
Affiliated with Salafist preacher Hazem Abu-Ismail, who is now in jail, Ahrar movement was formed by his young supporters during the period of military rule after the revolution.
They positioned themselves as more 'revolutionary' than the Muslim Brotherhood. Ahrar is against the ouster of president Mohamed Morsi in July 2013.
The National Alliance to Support Legitimacy has called for protests on the forth anniversary of the January 25 revolution that led to the ouster of president Hosni Mubarak.
