Shaimaa Al Sabbagh’s family refused to accuse anyone of killing their daughter during testimony to the prosecution Wednesday night, Youm7 reported.
Sabbagh was killed by birdshot at Talaat Harb Square Saturday during a protest organized by the Popular Alliance Party (PAP) marking the fourth anniversary of the January 25 Revolution.
The death of Sabbagh, who was the secretary of PAP, was captured in pictures by Youm7, where officers were seen chasing protestors with her body in the background.
The Interior Minister announced in a Monday press conference that if any member of the security forces were responsible for Sabbagh’s death, they would be tried, adding that it was still too early to make specific allegations.
A number of Sabbagh’s friends called to organize a protest Thursday afternoon in downtown Cairo at the same place where she was killed.
They wrote on Facebook that the protest would be “feminist,” demanding a quick investigation and trial of her killers, and showing objection to the incident.
“The bullet that penetrated Shaimaa’s chest will not intimidate us to stand and protest at the same place,” said the statement on Facebook.
