A war of statements heated up after Nedaa Masr Coalition spokesman accused the Nour Party of clearing the Sadat City constituency in favor of former Mubarak-era iron and steel tycoon and former ruling National Democratic Party leader Ahmed Ezz.
The Nour Party meanwhile issued a statement saying Nedaa Masr Coalition is conducting a smear campaign against the party.
"The Nour Party's supreme body decided at a meeting to clear the constituency of Sadat City for Ahmed Ezz although Sadat City is one of the most important strongholds of Nour Party," said Nedaa Masr Coalition spokesman Mahmoud Nafady.
The party responded denying the accusation in an official statement and saying Nafady aims to distort its image.
"The Nour (Party) is very strong and has a candidate in Sadat City who is Gehad Nasr, professor at the Faculty of Education at the University of Sadat," said Nour Party spokeman Mohamed Salah Khalifa.
"The Nour Party is being manipulative because their candidate will run in the city of Menouf not Sadat City after splitting both cities (to two constituencies) in the last amendment, which the party knows well," according to Nafady.
If the party cleared certain constituencies it would be in favor of political figures who were not implicated in corruption cases, said Khalifa, adding that the NDP included non-corrupt members.
