One of the monks at Wadi Rayan monastery said the construction workers have arrived to start working on the new road.
He explained that the project will destroy a church that dates back to the fourth century and other antiquities.
It's worth mentioning that other routes were suggested by the monastery to carry out the new road without destroying the antiquities, which was ignored by the officials.
