Al-Azhar Grand Sheikh Ahmed al-Tayyeb refuted claims that the Al-Azhar advises people to read the Brotherhood books.
“This is not true,” he said, explaining that he cited al-Hudeiby, the Brotherhood guide, because he himself refuted the radical thoughts of Sayyid Qutb in his book.
Tayyeb said in his weekly program on the Egyptian state television on Friday that those who attack Al-Azhar did not listen to all he had said in early programs because they just want to mislead people and distort social stability.
“Attacks on the Al-Azhar soon fade away as has happened several times before,” he said.
