The General Authority for Investment (GAFI) has given a grace period of 15 days to privately-owned channel Al Kahera Wal Nasr to shut down its controversial show “With Islam,” sources at GAFI told Youm7 Sunday.
Al-Azhar had filed a complaint with GAFI, as well as a lawsuit against the presenter of the show, Islam al-Behairy, for detrimental remarks on the “fundamentals of religion.”
Behairy has harshly criticized the most prominent scholars of Islam, who lived centuries ago, but whose scholarly books still largely influence the way Islam is understood among Muslims.
He argues that he relies on Quran and not opinions of people, but Al-Azhar accuses him spreading doubts about “indisputable facts” of Islam, “misleading young people” and sedition.
