Egyptian authorities have arrested the sons of Hamza Zawbaa, a leader of the now blacklisted Muslim Brotherhood, an interior ministry source said, amid a continuing crackdown on Islamists.Hozayfa and Mohamed were arrested on Saturday during a march in an eastern Cairo suburb over violence-related charges, including rioting and illegal protest.
Despite being a critic of the country's current authorities, Hozayfa has wrote several online articles blasting the Brotherhood's leadership for what he describes as the group's "lies" to its supporters and exploitation of them for political gains.
Hamzaa Zawbaa is a media advisor of the Muslim Brotherhood, Egypt's once largest and most organised political movement that has almost been decimated as a result of a fierce security crackdown since the 2013 ouster of the Islamist president Mohamed Morsi, a senior member of the 86 year-old group.
Thousands of the group's members and sympathisers have been arrested since Morsi's removal, and the ex-president himself is entangled in multiple trials over charges that include murder.
Zawbaa is currently believed to be based in Turkey, where he works as a presenter for a pro-Brotherhood TV channel that broadcasts from there.
His funds have been frozen by authorities for months, but judicial sources say no formal charges have been brought against him so far.
