Ties with Egypt depend on Morsi’s release – Turkish President
Turkish President, Teyib Recep Erdogan said the release of ousted Egypt President, Mohamed Morsi and the cancellation of death sentences against his supporters is a prerequisite for reviewing relations with Egypt.“Morsi is an elected president who bagged 52 percent of the vote, he should be released,� Erdogan told reporters following his return from Iran.Turkish President, Teyib Recep Erdogan said the release of ousted Egypt President, Mohamed Morsi and the cancellation of death sentences against his supporters is a prerequisite for reviewing relations with Egypt.“Morsi is an elected president who bagged 52 percent of the vote, he should be released, Erdogan told reporters following his return from Iran.
 
Relations between Cairo and Istanbul had deteriorated after the removal of the Muslim Brotherhood leading figure by the army in July 2013.
 
The Turkish leader has always criticized the Egyptian government and described Morsi’s ouster as “a coup against the constitution
 
However, Cairo views Turkey’s criticism as interference in Egypt’s internal affairs.
 
Morsi and other Muslim Brotherhood leaders are on trial for incitement to murder and spying for foreign countries among others.
 
The Muslim Brotherhood has been blacklisted as a terrorist organization by the authorities in Egypt.
