An alleged member of the Muslim Brotherhood has been arrested for manufacturing dozens of explosive devices in his apartment in Sheikh Zayed city on the outskirts of Cairo, according to a Monday police statement.
The suspect was arrested in possession of 18 bombs and an amount of explosives adequate to bomb an “entire neighborhood.”
Abdel Rahman H., who allegedly has an experience in manufacturing explosives, confessed to having perpetrated several bombings in neighboring October City, including at its famous Hosary square, two U.S. restaurants and a shopping mall.
However, October 6 city was targeted in other locations, such as police stations and natural gas lines.
In January, a plastics factory was seized in the Delta’s Sharqia after the police found three tons of explosives inside it. The police said the explosives were used to bomb water plants and power transformers in the governorate.
A number of people have been killed in the past months while manufacturing bombs in their apartments in several governorates. Most recently, four were killed and four injured while at least some of them were manufacturing explosive in an apartment in the Delta’s Qalyubia.
