One Egyptian and two Israelis were given life sentences Wednesday on charges of espionage, in the criminal court of North Sinai, Youm 7 reported.
A judicial source told Youm 7 that the Arish court handed the sentence to the Egyptian, who was present, while the two Israelis were tried in absentia.
In Egypt’s legal system, a life sentence generally means a prison term of 25 years.
The case date goes back to August 2011, when both Israeli defendants allegedly recruited their Egyptian co-defendant for transmitting information regarding field operations in the Sinai.
