Some 17 alleged takfiris (hard-line Islamists) were killed in an attack by a military plane against militants on the desert road south of Sheikh Zuwayed, North Sinai, Youm7 reported Sunday.
Youm7 said that the operation left some 20 injured and destroyed 30 “terrorist hot beds.”
Sunday’s attack comes as part of the ongoing intensive security campaign in the northern tip of the peninsula, aiming to curb the expansion of the radical Islamist insurgency. Militant groups in North Sinai have launched several attacks on army forces killing hundreds of them since the 2013 ouster of President Mohamed Morsi.
