Some 73 tribes are uniting to assist the military and police in Sinai to fight “terrorist” groups located in Sinai, a leader within the Bedouin Tarabin tribe said Wednesday.
Sheikh Moussa el-Daleh told Al Ashra Masa’n talk show, that “Although the Egyptian military is not in need of our support, our traditions force us to support it.”
“We’re not gangs, we fight for dignity and honor, and our Egyptian state and military are inveterate and both of us are fighting a real enemy who doesn’t belong to our lands,” said the sheikh.
Press reports previously reported that some members of Ansar Bayt al-Maqdis (ABM) terrorist group, which has been active in the Sinai for years, and has claimed responsibility for a number of attacks against military installations in the peninsula, belong to Sinai- tribes.
On Monday, The Tarabin tribe attacked Ansar Bayt al-Maqdis following an incident of a beheading of a 16-year-old boy from the tribe by the group and fatally shooting another man.
Around 300 members from the Tarabin and other tribes in 120 4WD and trucks participated in the attack on alleged ABM hotbeds in Rafah and Sheikh Zuwayed that are under 11 hours of curfew.
The Tarabin published a statement on their attack, announcing their retaliation against the outlawed members for the beheading boy. They released a statement saying “we announce that slaughtering you is permissible and your bodies will be buried under the earth.”
