A man identified as Karim killed another man, identified as Mahmoud, after the victim allegedly asked for sex, Youm7 reported.
Karim and Mahmoud befriended each other 20 days before the crime; Mahmoud allegedly invited Karim over to his apartment in Ezbet el-Haggan, a slum area near Nasr City.
Mahmoud then asked Karim to have sex with him; Karim’s reaction was to strangle Karim with a shawl, according to Karim’s testimony to the police. He was later arrested for murder.
The incident is similar to the fate of a gay character in the Yacoubian Building, a 2002 novel and a 2006 popular movie.
Although it was not the first film to include a gay character in the Egyptian cinema, it is the most famous. The rich character was strangled by a potential lover, who proceeded to rob him.
