I wrote this article, believing that there is no Egyptian Church in the international tourist city "Venice", as there is no Coptic community in this city. So I thought His Eminence Abba Kyrillos, Bishop of Milan, will never establish a Church in that tourist city.
However, I found out that I have made a fatal mistake, since I was surprised this morning to hear what His Eminence said about establishing a new church on the name of St. Mark. He also said that the license of the new church took 9 years!
Leaders of the Coptic church in Vince forgot that there is an old church carrying the name of St. Mark as well and belongs to the Catholic church. Why such expensive city was chosen to spend a lot of money on such luxurious Cathedral, which will be chosen to hold priestly Conferences in the floating city!
What kind of planning is that? It's indeed wasting the money of donations that the poor people in our church are in dire need for. How many Coptic people will such Cathedral serve and how many Copts live in that city? These are important questions that should have been taken into consideration by the decision makers in our church before they decide to carry our similar project?
Such decision affects the reputation of the Egyptian Church abroad, and therefore, shouldn’t be taken as personal decision before making the due researches and studies. Similar decisions led to the atheistic Bolshevik Revolution in 1917 in Russia.
We must study how to spend donations and guide donors to the most important priorities to spend such money. Our Egyptian church spends donations money in an uncontrolled way without excuse.
