A policeman was killed and another was injured on Wednesday when an explosive device went off in North Sinai's al-Arish city the Interior Ministry said.
The explosive detonated on a road while security forces were passing, the ministry said in a statement. They were returning from a security campaign they had carried out earlier in the day.
Another blast in Arish earlier today left two policemen injured, while they were carrying out combing operations, state news agency MENA reported. Security sources said the explosive device was planted at the side of the road, adding that it went off when an armored vehicle was passing through.
Both injured policemen have been hospitalised.
Militancy inside Egypt has seen a significant rise since July 2013, with the military ouster of Islamist President Mohamed Mursi, following mass protests against his rule. Most attacks occur in North Sinai and target security forces.
On Friday, a military conscript was abducted and eventually killed in North Sinai, by militants belonging to Ansar Bayt al-Maqdis, Egypt's most notorious militant group.
Ansar changed its name to Sinai Province after pledging allegiance to the leader of the Islamic State fighters in Iraq and Syria last November.
In response to the militancy security forces are carrying out an intensified campaign aimed at curbing insurgency in the peninsula. Earlier this month, the armed forces announced that security operations have left a total of 725 suspected militants killed between late October and late April.
