Trains will resume once the railroad is repaired, said Gad al-Haqq, head of the police transport administration in statements to Aswat Masriya.

Militancy in Egypt rose significantly since July 2013. Attacks started in the Sinai Peninsula but soon expanded to other areas of the country, including the capital.

While the target of most attacks is security personnel and facilities, electricity pylons, railroad tracks and even residential areas are commonly hit.

Most railroad blasts lead to temporary disruptions but some are deadly. An improvised explosive device went off in the last cart of a train in the Menuf train station on November 5, 2014, killing four and injuring eight.
