CAIRO-- Chief of Al Wafd, Egypt's oldest liberal party, has said that his party will field a candidate in Egypt's presidential elections due next year.
El-Sayyed el-Badawi, the chairman of Al Wafd, told Egyptian television that the name of the contender wiould be announced by the board of the party.. El-Badawi, who was elected to steer the helm of Al Wafd earlier this year, said he hoped Egyptian-born physics Nobel Laureate Ahmed Zeweil will join Al Wafd.
President Hosni Mubarak, who has been in power since 1981, has yet to say if he will seek a sixth term.
