Nadeem Center: 272 deaths behind bars during Sisi's first year of rule

The Nadeem Center for Rehabilitation of Victims of Violence released a report saying that security violations during the past 12 months has reached 272 deaths and 289 torture cases inside Egyptian prisons.

Moreover, there were 119 cases of forced disappearance, 97 cases of medical negligence, 63 injured as a result of fire in the street, 27 cases of mass torture, 27 cases were beaten and 16 cases of sexual assault.
 
Nadeem Center monitored an increase of sexual harassment and rape cases of female prisoners which reached 16 during the period from June 2014 to June 2015.
 
“Forced disappearances have increased 42 times during the first half of 2015 compared to the last half of 2014,” said Suzan Fayad, a member of the center.
 
Nadeem Center pointed that there are new forms of violations appeared recently including mass torture, forced disappearances and deaths behind bars due to bad health conditions or unknown reasons.
 
“Since the calls of former interim president Adly Mansour to combat terrorism and in wake of the Rabaa sit-in dispersal in August 2013, the security forces are working with an iron fist,” Fayad said,
 
Nadeem Center released its February report, which recorded at least 82 cases of torture and ill-treatment of detainees.
