A bomb exploded on Sunday outside the Saudi Arabian consulate in Cairo's Garden City district, but did not cause any casualties, reported MENA state agency.
The bomb was planted under a car, which was destroyed in the explosion. The area was inspected for other bombs but nothing was found.
Garden City hosts several embassies and consulates. A security team will view the footage from security cameras of the embassies in the area in an attempt to identify the assailants.
Militant attacks, especially targeting security forces, have spiked since the ouster of Islamist president Mohamed Morsi in 2013.
Saudi Arabia, an opponent of the Muslim Brotherhood, has been a strong supporter of the current regime and of the current president, Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi.
