An Egyptian court on Wednesday sentenced in absentia TV presenter Moataz Matar to ten years in jail and a fine of LE 700 on charges of inciting to overthrow the regime and spreading false news, a judicial source told Aswat Masriya.
Matar, who was sentenced in absentia, works for Al-Sharq channel that is pro-Muslim Brotherhood. It is allegedly broadcasted from Turkey.
In February, Egypt's foreign ministry called on European countries to stop the broadcasting of channels linked to the Muslim Brotherhood.
In December 2013, Egypt outlawed all activities by the Muslim Brotherhood.
