Egypt's Sisi discusses cooperation, economic ties with Chinese counterpart

President Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi met in Beijing on Wednesday with Chinese President Xi Jinping to discuss furthering economic and political cooperation between the two countries, Egypt's news agency MENA reported.

The duo also discussed regional and international issues including conflicts in Syria and Yemen.

On Tuesday, El-Sisi landed in China for a three-day visit as part of his Asian tour, which also includes visits to Singapore and Indonesia.

The president is scheduled to attend a ceremony on Thursday marking the 70th anniversary of the end of World War II.

Eighty-one Egyptian army personnel will take part in the Tiananmen Square parades.

"The participation of the Egyptian armed forces in the [Thursday] military shows that the Egyptian people share the celebration with the Chinese people," El-Sisi said in a press statement before meeting Jinping.

The celebrations will be attended by a slew of heads of state and world leaders including Russian President Vladimir Putin and UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon.

El-Sisi's visit is the second in less than a year. The president was in Beijing last December seeking economic deals with China.

Since he became president last year, El-Sisi has made reviving the country's battered economy and restoring security after years of political tumult the keystone of his rule.
