Solidarity Minister dissolves 57 NGO for alleged Muslim Brotherhood affiliation

Solidarity Minister Ghada Wali ordered Monday the dissolution of 57 non-governmental organizations accused of affiliation with the Muslim Brotherhood , Youm7 reported.Solidarity Minister Ghada Wali ordered Monday the dissolution of 57 non-governmental organizations accused of affiliation with the Muslim Brotherhood , Youm7 reported.

The NGOs are located in Egypt’s Delta governorates of Sharqia, Dakahlia, Beheira and Kafr el-Sheikh, Wali said.

“The decision comes in accordance with the September 2013 Cairo court ruling which banned the Brotherhood’s activities and established a governmental panel to confiscate the assets and property of Brotherhood-linked organizations,” Youm7 quoted Wali.

Wali said the confiscated assets and properties will be transferred to a governmental fund established to support governmental NGOs and national bodies that have been established according to regulations stated in NGO Law for the year 2002.

The law states that each organization shall maintain a headquarters and board of directors, register with the ministry of solidarity and submit financial disclosure documents.

Earlier this year, several NGOs were dissolved for connections to the MB.

In August, Wali dissolved 10 NGOs and discharged the boards of directors of 29 others over alleged affiliation with the MB.

In September 2013, the North Cairo Criminal Court upheld a decision by former Attorney General Hisham Barakat to freeze the assets of prominent MB leaders, including Supreme Guide Mohamed Badie and his deputy Khairat El-Shater.

The Muslim Brotherhood was designated as a terrorist organization in December 2013.
