Security bodies in Beheira governorate arrested two scrap workers for slaughtering a number of donkeys and selling the meat, Youm7 reported Thursday.
The security directorate in Beheira received a report that two scrap workers are using a waste dump to slaughter the animals, then passing the meat off as beef, to take advantage of high meat prices before Eid al-Adha.
The two accused were arrested and confessed the incident according to a police report.
In July, Egyptian police found a donkey farm in Fayoum governorate, where the farm’s owner raised and slaughtered donkeys, and distributed their meat to a number of butchers for human consumption
A police report was filed and the farm’s owner, along with eight workers, were detained 15 days pending investigations into managing anunlicensed farm and slaughtering donkeys in violation of the environmental and health regulations.
After the incident, Egypt’s Dar al-Iftaa announced in a statement that slaughtering donkeys for human use purposes is forbidden.
