A total of 27 people allegedly affiliated with the Muslim Brotherhood were arrested in Alexandria Security Thursday over trying to establish “irregular” open areas to perform Eid al-Adha (Feast of Sacrifice,) reported Youm7.
Egyptian Muslims nationwide performed a prayer in the early morning on the first day of Eid al-Adha holiday.
The Ministry of Endowment allocated over 4000 areas across the country to perform the prayer, and warned against preparing praying areas other than its designated places.
The arrested people were also accused of partaking in illegal protests and inciting violence.
The authorities have cracked down on the Muslim Brotherhood group, designated as a “terrorist organization” in 2013; many of its leaders and supporters are either behind bars or abroad. The group members are accused of disrupting public peace and inciting violence.
