Copts in the Next Parliamentary Election

In my last article I spoke about the parliamentary elections. I had mentioned that ex NDP members and the Al-Nour party will mostly compose the next parliament. Today, however, I want to talk about the position of the Copts in the next parliamentary elections.

I believe that after 2 revolutions, nothing has changed regarding the Copts. Meaning, these 2 revolutions have not resulted in a push for Egyptians to vote for a Coptic man rather than a Muslim. You may be curious and ask me why I am pessimistic about the future of the Copts in parliament.

I want to clarify that I’m not pessimistic but realistic. The last 2 revolutions still didn’t change the ideas among Muslim Egyptians about the Coptic Egyptians. The majority of Muslim Egyptians still believe that the Coptic Egyptian are infidels according to thier belief and that’s why nobody can’t vote for him.

Adding to that, the role that the Al-Nour party and the other Islamic parties play to not vote for the Copts and liberals, in general, leads me to what I have written about in my last article that the Islamic and NDP parties will dominate the next parliament.

Having said that, I don’t want the Copts to take what I have talked about as an excuse to not participate in the next parliamentary election. On the contrary, I want them to prove that they want to participate and share in this event. I want them to prove that they are the real patriots of this country and I want them to say that we are here as we were in the 30th of June revolution to save Egypt and to make it more moderate.
