Last week there was a lot of statements made by the Al-Nour Party proving that without a doubt, that they are a religious party, not a secular one. The Al-Nour party proclaimed that they would allow Copts to be candidates under their reign just because they want to respect the law. This means that in their own belief they don’t think that the Copts are citizens, or that they have the same rights.
The Al-Nour Party confirmed that Copts are not considered citizens and they are just doing them a favor by putting them in their elections list. However, I can say that many Copts are the reason of giving Al-Nour party the chance to withdraw their rights and consider it as a favor.
When many Copts announced that they will elect themselves under the Al-Nour party, I thought they might want to do that in order to not have influence inside the party and be able to amend their agenda but I was mistaken. Instead of that, the Al-Nour Party wants to take away the Copts' rights of being citizens.
I think the Al-Nour Party should be eliminated from the political environment after their recent statements from their leaders towards the Copts in Egypt. If the Al-Nour party continued to be in the political campaign, I think there will be a big clash not just between the Al-Nour party and the Copts, but also between the Al-Nour party and all the secular political parties.
It’s not late to stop the Al-Nour party from playing this dirty game that they are trying to play by considering the Copts as second class citizens. If we don't stop that Party from running the political campaign, we all will regret it.
