35 years ago, I decided to migrate to Switzerland, the beautiful country that I moved to without facing sectarian pressure of my home country. Sectarianism was not clear in Egypt at that time.
I remember the cultural shock I had at the first period of migration that had great impact on me. I was born and raised in a conservative community that considers its ideas the absolute truth. For example: we thought that the Egyptians are the best people all over the world, and that our ideas are the best among the nations! We loved such ideas at that time since they fed our pride and joy. We didn’t even care after all about our real situation among the nation.
After years, and trying to achieve success, I started to assess our Eastern ideas. I found out that the East thinks based on rationality and doesn’t personalize the matters. This is crystal clear in practices of individuals and political leaders in the West. This means that self or national interest is what matters the most.
This may clarify how the West thinks away from superstations published in Western media after the crisis of the Russian plane. Our media claimed that we face a kind of conspiracy, which is great explanation for several reasons. With such a conspiracy, the negligence would not be held accountable for, and we won’t search for ways to return tourism to Sinai after several Western tourists canceled their trips to Sinai. However, Egyptian media tried to drug the Egyptians instead of facing the truth!
The reason of the accident is once said to be a rocket, and another time is a technical failure. Our media totally rejected the possibility of having a bomb inside the plane! If we think we face a conspiracy, we have to take all possibilities into consideration.
The tourists face several problems in our country including bad traffic, bad cops, bad highways and thieves who try to steal the tourists everywhere. This makes a catch out of him rather than a welcomed guest at our gorgeous beaches and magnificent monuments.
The Egyptians don’t usually bring their work to perfection. This is announced clearly in Western media that monitor our ruined hospitals and houses. Such lack of perfection in our work became a serious threat to our lives and economy. However, we don’t realize such error and consequently don’t try to fix it. We only consider convulsive acts and barbarism away from rational thinking.
The west doesn’t care about our claims to face a conspiracy. We have to respect them and think rationally in order to gain their respect. We have to respect ourselves before expecting the rest of the world to show respect for us.
