Seven defendants sentenced to death in Second Rafah Massacre

The Giza Criminal Court, headed by judge Motaz Khafagy, has sentenced Adel Habbara and six others to death for killing soldiers in Rafah city, North Sinai, in the case publicly known as the "Second Rafah Massacre".The Giza Criminal Court, headed by judge Motaz Khafagy, has sentenced Adel Habbara and six others to death for killing soldiers in Rafah city, North Sinai, in the case publicly known as the "Second Rafah Massacre".

The court sentenced three defendants in the case to life in prison, 22 others to 15 years in prison and acquitted three.
 
The main defendant, Habbara, and 34 other defendants were charged with killing 25 Central Security Forces' recruits along the Arish-Rafah highway in August 2013.
 
The defendants are also accused of attempting to murder Central Security Forces in Belbeis and of spying for the Iraqi Al-Qaeda branch.
 
Habbara had been sentenced to death in the same case and his challenge against the ruling was accepted by the Court of Cassation. His, and the other defendants' retrial, was set for September 8.
