The instructor, who works at the Faculty of Medicine, “committed acts that incite protests and jeopardize the stability of the study,” head of Al-Azhar University Abdel Hayy Azab stated.

He also “insulted the Armed Forces, figures of the state and Al-Azhar,” Azab added.

Depending on the outcome of the investigation, the teacher will return to his job or be expelled.

Al-Azhar University witnessed the worst violence amongst Egyptian universities following the 2013 ouster of President Mohamed Morsi. Hundreds of pro-Muslim Brotherhood students were expelled due to engaging in violent protests and arson on campus.

News reports claimed that some young teaching assistants smuggled flares and pro-Morsi signs inside their cars to later give them to students on campus.
