Cairo University announced it will organize a rally wearing orange shirts Thursday to denounce violence against women, Al Ahram reported.
“The rally comes in light of the university’s participation at the annual the 16 Days of Activism against Gender-Based Violence that starts every year Nov. 25 and ends Dec. 10,” President of Cairo University Gaber Nassar stated.
Since the campaign was launched in 1991 by the Women’s Global Leadership Institute, more than 5,167 organizations and 187 countries have participated.
“The campaign aims to raise awareness and take action against violence against women and girls. As a bright and optimistic color, orange represents a future free from violence against women and girls,” UNWOMEN.org.
One in three women have experienced physical or sexual violence in their lifetime, according to UNWOMEN.org.
