Egypt denounced Tuesday U.S. republican presidential candidate Donald Trump’s remarks that called for a travel ban for all Muslims to the United States.
“This hostile look at Islam and Muslims would increase tensions in American society, of which Muslim citizens number nearly 8 million people who are active members and part and parcel of the American society,” Egypt’s Dar al-Iftaa, s Dar al-Iftaa, a Sunni Islamic body concerned with issuing fatwas, stated.
Trump’s claims that Muslims hate Americans are “nonsense” as Islam calls for co-existence a d integration, the statement added.
“It is unfair that all Muslims be punished for (acts of) extremist group rejects to follow Islamic Sharia,” the statement read, noting that all Ibrahimic religions renounce violence and extremism.
Dar al-Iftaa also called for activating the U.S. laws criminalize inciting religious and racial hatred inside the society.
On his official website, U.S. presidential hopeful Trump released Monday a statement calling for banning all Muslims from entering into the States.
“Donald J. Trump is calling for a total and complete shutdown of Muslims entering the United States until our country’s representatives can figure out what is going on,” the statement read.
The statement was released following the terror attacks targeted California Wednesday and claimed lives of 14 people and injuring 21 others by a couple, reportedly, belongs to the militant Islamic Stat group.
There is not currently any religious test or question for persons wishing to enter the United States, neither immigration nor tourist visa applications collect religious data.
Trump’s remarks stirred criticism from his democratic rivals, Muslims, and U.S. President Barak Obama Administration.
His democratic rival Hilary Clinton tweeted “This is reprehensible, prejudiced and divisive. @RealDonaldTrump, you don’t get it. This makes us less safe. –H”.
White House spokesperson Josh Earnest was quoted as saying that Trump is “seeking to tap into a darker side, a darker element, and try to play on people’s fears in order to build support for his campaign.”
Egyptian Comedian and anchorman Bassem Youssef described Trump as a Nazi, tweeting sarcastically “I didn’t know that Donald Trump was fluent in Nazi.”
