A delegation of four Russian military officials arrived in Cairo Saturday to discuss cooperation between both countries, DPA quoted sources as saying.
Egypt has sought closer cooperation with Russia since the ouster of former president Mohamed Morsi in 2013, reiterating a tendency to diversify its armament sources.
In November, Russian Tass news agency reported that Moscow had instructed the country’s military cooperation body to quickly answer an Egyptian request to purchase a wide range of advanced Russian armaments. The directives followed reports that Egypt was interested in purchasing Kamov Ka-52K helicopters developed for the Mistral-class amphibious ships and the corresponding equipment for US$1 billion.
