A total of 28 convicts, allegedly belong to the banned Muslim Brotherhood group, were sentenced Saturday to 5 years in prison over charges of inciting violence and burning electricity transformers in Delta’s Sharqia governorate , Youm7 reported.The convicts have been arrested in early 2015 while staging an unlicensed protest in Faquos village of Sharqia.
On Dec. 16, a military court sentenced six people, allegedly belonging to the Muslim Brotherhood, to 15 years in jail after being guilty of burning and targeting electricity transformers in Sharqia’s capital city of Zaqaziq.
Per anti-terrorism law passed in August, anyone convicted of sabotaging electricity transmission towers or gas and oil pipelines may be sentenced between seven years in jail to life imprisonment; in case that his “terrorist” acts lead to the death of a person, the punishment would be toughened to the death penalty.
Egypt has outlawed the Muslim Brotherhood group in December 2013, following the ouster of former Islamist President Mohamed Morsi in July 2013 after mass protests called for the end of his regime in June 2013.
Hundreds of MB members and supporters were detained and handed different sentences of imprisonments and death penalties over charges of killing, inciting violence, attacking public prosperities, illegal protesting, and belonging to banned group.
