Egypt to inaugurate Wadi El Hitan Fossil, Climate Change Museum Jan. 14

Egypt will inaugurate the Wadi El Hitan Fossil and Climate Change Museum at Wadi El Hitan area in Fayoum governorate, 80 kilometer south to Cairo, on Jan. 15, the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) announced Tuesday.

“The newly completed Wadi Hitan Fossil and Climate Change Museum features the largest intact Basilosaurus isis whale fossil and a unique collection of fossils found nowhere else in the world,” the organization added.

The museum aims to promote public awareness about climate change and eco-tourism and highlight how its negative impacts affect humans and the environment as Wadi Hitan, located in Wadi El Rayan Protected Areas, transformed from sea to a hyper-arid desert due to = climate change, the statement noted.

The museum has been constructed by the UNDP and Egyptian government and was financed by the government of Italy, the statement said.
