If former President Hosni Mubarak and his two sons do not pay a fine of 42 million EGP ($5.3 million) the authorities may seize the equivalent from their properties, an informed judicial source told Youm7 Monday.
The Court of Cassation rejected Saturday the Mubaraks’ challenge against prison terms they had been given for seizing 125 million EGP worth of public funds allocated to the upkeep of presidential palaces between 2002 and 2011.
The family has paid 104 million EGP of the embezzled amount, and is also yet to pay a fine of 21 million EGP ordered by the Cairo Criminal Court. Mubarak was sentenced to three years in prison and his sons were sentenced to four in the case.
The final verdict deprives the veteran former president from a military funeral, his military ranks and medals.
Mubarak resides in Maadi Military Hospital, while his two sons, Gamal and Alaa, have already been released after serving their prison terms.
