Muslim Brotherhood Supreme Guide Mohamed Badei was transferred Tuesday to a hospital to undergo an inguinal hernia surgery, Youm7 reported.Badie’s condition is stable, medical sources at al-Qasr al-Aini hospital, where Badie is hospitalized, said following the surgery, adding that he will be sent back to Tora Prison after recovery.
He is serving time for several sentences of life in prison; he was also sentenced to death, but has appealed the rulings.
On Feb. 28, a Cairo Criminal Court sentenced Badie, his deputy Khairat al-Shater, and 12 convicts to life in prison and upheld the capital punishments rulings against four other co-defendants over inciting violence and murder.
On Dec. 3, 2015, death sentences handed down to Badie and 11 other high-ranking members of the Islamist group were overruled by the Court of Cassation. The defendants are charged with inciting murder and spreading chaos by running an operation room at Cairo-based Rabaa square.
