Cabinet approves jail, fines for terrorism-promoting items
The Cabinet approved the draft of a presidential decree imposing jail, a LE10,000-LE30,000 fine, or both penalties to people possessing or trading items that promote groups considered by authorities to be terrorist organizations on Wednesday.The Cabinet approved the draft of a presidential decree imposing jail, a LE10,000-LE30,000 fine, or both penalties to people possessing or trading items that promote groups considered by authorities to be terrorist organizations on Wednesday.
 
The decree, which comes as an amendment to the penal code, targets traders, manufacturers, distributors and importers of posters, fliers, emblems, photographs or hand drawings that support active terrorist entities either locally or abroad.
 
A supplementary decree is yet to specify the targeted symbols and items, but it could include the “Rabaa Sign”, a four-fingered gesture adopted by the outlawed Muslim Brotherhood since the bloody dispersal of its landmark sit-in at Cairo’s Rabaa al-Adweya Square in 2013, which demanded the reinstatement of ousted president Mohamed Morsi.
