Egypt’s Foreign Ministry strongly condemned the Saturday Burkina Faso hotel attack that killed at least 23 people.The ministry’s spokesperson Ahmed Abou Zeid paid Egypt’s condolences to the victims and their families from all nationalities, emphasizing that “Egypt stands with the government and people of Burkina Faso against terrorism.”
The assault was perpetrated by al-Qaeda militants in Burkina Faso’s capital Ouagadougou; 126 hostages were freed by the West African state’s security forces, Reuters reported.
Security Minister of Burkina Faso Simon Compaore told Reuters that three “jihadists” were killed, including an “Arab and two black Africans.”
In neighboring Mali, an attack on a hotel in the capital of Bamako by militants affiliated with al-Qaeda left 20 dead.
