The Court of Cassation on Saturday set Feb. 3 for an appeal hearing on mass death sentences handed down to 149 defendants for storming Kerdasa police station, Youm7 reported.
In February 2015, Giza Criminal Court sentenced 149 defendants to death, and 1 defendant to 10 years in prison, over charges of storming the Kerdasa police station and killing at least 11 policemen and two civilians.
The said crimes reportedly occurred in the aftermath of the deadly dispersal of pro-Muslim Brotherhood sit-ins in August 2013 following the military-backed ouster of Islamist President Mohamed Morsi.
On Jan. 6, the cassation prosecution recommended that the appeal be accepted.
The Giza court also sentenced 34 other defendants who are at large to death.
The defendants face other numerous charges including possession of ammunition, vandalizing the Kerdasa police station and setting ablaze private cars and armored vehicles.
